Rosatom Hosts Lectures Delivered by VYZOV Prize Laureates

Valery Tuchin

Laureates of the VYZOV Prize for Future Technologies delivered a series of lectures on popular science for Rosatom staff. They met with members of the nuclear company’s workforce to brief them on their advanced research and its prospects for practical application, and to discuss the main trends and development vectors in global science.

The first of the lectures took place on May 29 th, 2025, and was delivered by Valery Tuchin, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and laureate of the VYZOV Prize’s ‘Scientist of the Year’ award. Mr. Tuchin has developed a method for optical tissue clearing (OTC), which is capable of making entire body organs translucent. This opens new horizons for diagnostics and treatment of many health conditions including cancer and diabetes. Valery Tuchin devoted his lecture to optical technologies for biology and medicine, explaining how light helps diagnose and treat diseases, and why laser and optical methods are the future of medicine. He also told his audience about some of the state-of-the-art solutions for sonography (USI), computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron-emission tomography and more.

Dr. Evgeny Antipov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Laureate of the VYZOV Prize in the ‘Breakthrough’ category spoke at the Rosatom auditorium on June 25 th, delivering a popular-science lecture titled ‘The Future of Batteries: The Breakthroughs in Electrochemistry.’ Evgeny Antipov is a leading scientist in the field of electrochemical energy production and non-organic materials, inventing new materials for the production of new-generation, high-capacity rechargeable batteries. A smartphone powered by such a battery would be able to run on one top-up per week, while equipping electric vehicles with these new-generation batteries would make them 7-8 times more energy efficient.
